Schoolchildren joined an Olympic medallist for a one-mile run to encourage other youngsters to get outdoors and be more active.

Pupils from Coppermill Primary School, Newport Primary School and Selwyn Primary School, all in Waltham Forest, participated in the Go Run for Fun event alongside artistic gymnast Amy Tinkler.

More than 3,000 children from 45 schools in east London took part in the run at Lee Valley Velo Park, Stratford, on Wednesday, July 4, which included a performance by music sensations Max & Harvey.

Ms Tinkler, who is a three times European medallist and 2016 Rio Olympic bronze medallist, said: “I love being in a position to inspire young children to get involved in sport, and this is a fantastic event with thousands of children participating in exercise and having fun.

“Gymnastics has impacted my life massively; I have met so many people and travelled around the world, represented my country many times with the biggest honours at the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.

“Not only am I honoured and privileged to come to events like this, it’s also great to see GO Run for Fun inspiring the next generation.”

Max & Harvey impressed the young crowd for the second year in a row, performing their hit single ‘One More Day in Love’.

The identical twins who shot to fame through the singing app Musical.ly are ambassadors for the programme which is supported by INEOS, a multinational company headquartered in London.

INEOS Chairman, Jim Ratcliffe, said: “It has never been more important to support young people in leading healthier, more active lives.

“GO Run for Fun and The Daily Mile have been making a positive impact on the health and well-being of hundreds of thousands of children in the UK and beyond for the last four years.

“We are very proud to support these two initiatives and everyone who runs in them.”
