A British woman facing years in a US prison after a customer died following a botched bum job sought refuge in the Epping Forest district.

Donna Francis is fighting extradition to the US after she gave Kelly Mayhew three silicone injections in her bottom in the basement of her house in New York in May 2015.

On the third dose the 34-year-old "turned purple" and immediately went into shock, leading her to stop breathing and beg Francis for help, Kelly's mother who was with her for the procedure said.

Instead of calling an ambulance the 37-year-old allegedly cleared up her equipment and ran from the house, fleeing in a grey SUV.

Emergency services rushed to the house and found Mayhew unconscious.

Despite performing CPR and taking her to hospital, she died.

Francis fled to London via Iceland after learning the young television producer had died.

NYPD detectives got an arrest warrant for Francis more than a year later and a jury in Queens, New York, indicted her for "criminally negligent homicide".

Francis was finally tracked down living in Loughton, Essex, and arrested by the Met Police in London in May last year.

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard yesterday (July 17) Francis may be taken to an all male transfer prison because conditions in the women's prison at Rikers Island, New York are so bad.

Joshua Dratel, a defence attorney in New York, said Francis may be sent to a male prison for processing when first arrives in the US if she is extradited.

He said via video link: "While she is being processed there is no provision for Miss Francis's transportation and housing once she arrives in the US.

"There's no detail about how she is going to be housed in what are currently all male faculties for a period of a day or three days.

"There's nothing about how that is going to be accomplished with regard to her privacy, safety and mental health.

"I don't know how it could accommodate a single woman in a facility like that unless you were going to put her in solitary, and that's another issue."

The court heard Francis could be sent to either Yaphank or Riverhead Correctional Facilities in Suffolk County, where Netflix drama Orange is the New Black were filmed.

The court heard prisoners often wake up with overflowing sewage from fellow inmates in their cells.

Certain types of silicone are banned for cosmetic uses in the United States, but many are still used on the underground market to increase the size of certain body parts, including breasts and bottoms.

US detectives even said there were even people waiting outside her house in Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, in their cars on the evening Kelly died in May 2015.

The Supreme Court in New York charged her with three offences including criminal negligent homicide, two counts of unauthorised practice of a professional - all of which could lead to a maximum sentence of four years in prison on each offence.

Kelly died from clots which cut off blood supply to her vitals organs caused by liquid silicone being injected into her buttocks, a court in London heard.

District Judge Robin McPhee released Francis, of Loughton, Essex, on unconditional bail but warned her she would be arrested if she did not turn up to the next court date.

The extradition hearing continues and another witness, Zachary Katznelson is due to give evidence via video link on September 4.
