Urgent repair works have been scheduled to fix "large and dangerous" potholes.

In recent months the state of the approach road to Epping Station has deteriorated significantly.

Heavy use during rush-hour and the stress caused by regular busses has led the road to get particularly clogged, as cars move into the opposite lane to avoid the crevices.

June Bird recently became concerned about the road and the damage it was doing to vehicles.

She said: "On one side of the road there are extremely large and dangerous holes.

"This is a busy road with cars coming to pick up people and often having to wait for trains to come in, plus many buses.

"Because the road condition is so bad most vehicles go round the obstacles, which in itself causes problems as they have to go onto the wrong side of the road to avoid them where there are waiting cars and others trying to go round the parked cars.

"It's chaotic at busy times, especially when buses are trying to go up and down the road."

Although the road is the tenth most complained about to Essex County Council in 2018 so far, the authority is not responsible for its upkeep.

Instead owners of the station Transport for London is responsible, the company having now pledged to bring the road up to standard.

A TfL spokesperson said: “We are aware of an issue with the surface of the approach road to Epping Station and apologise for the state of disrepair.

"We have scheduled in urgent repair works next month and customers using the station will be advised of the date shortly.”
