A fire broke out in shrubland, burning 50 tonnes of hay and straw.

Twenty-five square metres of shrubbery was engulfed just before 5am on Friday, July 20, in Empress Avenue, Wanstead.

The blaze, which took 25 firefighters about two hours to get under control, was less than a mile from the site of Sunday’s fire in Wanstead Flats, which engulfed 100 hectares.
