Thousands danced to some R'n'B favourites at a soul festival.

People flocked to Chingfest, Waltham Forest's annual celebration of soul music, in Ridgeway Park, Chingford, on Saturday.

Nearly 19,000 people attended the events, enjoying tributes to to some of the greatest acts of all time including the Red Imp comedy club and Urban DJ dance tent.

Headliners included I am Whitney (Whitney Houston), Celebrate (Kool and the Gang), Harry Cambridge (Luther Vandross), I am the Supremes and Diana Ross (The Supremes), American 4 Tops (Four Tops) and Emperors of the Soul ( The Temptations).

For the first time, Chingfest also played host to a new Urban DJ dance tent where local artists including 3eric, DJ Wavy on the Beat, DJ A-run-Tings and Niro tha DJ performed to a rapturous audience.

There were also photography workshops run by Iain Green Wildlife Wonder & Doorstep Discoveries, as well as arts and creative workshops, Kids Comedy shows from Walthamstow based Red Imp Comedy Club, a fun fair and an array of food and drink stalls.

Cllr Paul Douglas said: “Each one of our fantastic Get Together events showcases another side of culture in Waltham Forest.

"Some of the very best soul and r’n’b tribute acts entertained the crowds.

“It demonstrates the huge variety of culture and talent that you can find day in, day out across Waltham Forest.”

Chingfest is the fifth of Waltham Forest’s summer Get Together events, a series of free festival-style events taking place in parks across the borough.

The penultimate event of the year will be Leytonstone Street Fest on Sunday, September 2, with Fireworks Night on Monday, November 5 closing 2018’s Get Together events.
