A hard-working student had had a “dream come true” after receiving top A-level results and securing a place at university to study dentistry.

Saram Rashid, of Norlington Sixth Form in Leyton, is off to the University of Manchester after achieving an A* in maths, an A grade for his EPQ (extended project qualification) and Bs in biology and chemistry.

All students who sat A-levels at the sixth form, which opened in 2016, have either been awarded an apprenticeship or gained a place at university, with many heading to prestigious institutions.

Saram said: “When I first opened my results I was really scared because I did not know if I had got in, but when I found out I had been accepted I was so happy, I worked so hard and this is a dream come true.

“All my teachers at Norlington have helped me so much, I did not take English at A-level but all the English teachers were still were happy to help me with my personal statement, I felt very fortunate to get that kind of support.”

Saram’s peers, including Naymul Islam who also received an A* in maths, have accepted places at top universities to study subjects including economics, biology, architecture and computer science.

Norlington headteacher, John Hernandez, said: “We are very proud of all our students as they take their next step in their lives.

“The A* grades and maximum marks achieved by Naymul and Saram highlight the expectations and aspirations we have for every student.”
