Two students who each received three A* grades in maths, further maths and physics were the top performers at their high school for this year’s A-level results.

Sebastiano Bartolotta and Eden Coleman were congratulated by their teachers and classmates at Highams Park School this morning as they picked up their much-anticipated results.

The school’s principal, Phil Grundy, praised the young men for reinforcing the strength of the STEM provision at the school and sixth form in Handsworth Avenue.

Mr Grundy added: “These results confirm the strength we have at Highams Park Sixth Form across so many A-level and BTEC subjects.

“The students have worked incredibly hard for their successes and I would also like to pay tribute to all their teachers who have helped to inspire and support them.”

After the celebrations are over, Sebastiano will head to the University of Bath where he will study engineering while Eden’s excellent results have won him a place to study mathematics at the University of Warwick.

Superb results stretched across many other subjects as well, with Sydnie Naylor gaining A*A*A in psychology, sociology and media studies, which allows her to move on to study psychology at Sheffield.

There were further A* grades for Rawdhat Juma in art, Megan Beswick in psychology and Isabelle Heales in sociology, while Alex Oldroyd impressed with his range of qualifications, achieving AAA in art, economics and maths. Alex is heading to Bristol to study economics.

Other worthy performances came from Stefan Keeley, Adam Kelly, Olivia King and Daniel Wilshere who all achieved AAB across their different subjects.

The youngsters continued the school’s impressive track record in vocational qualifications, with BTECs once again the source of excellent results for students.

Jacob Coy, Skye Macdonald (who also achieved an A in computer science) and James Smith all achieved D*D* on their IT networking BTEC.

Of the 84 BTEC grades awarded to students this year, an impressive 63 per cent of them were awarded a distinction or higher.

Nigel Armsby, head of the sixth form added: “Our students’ achievements have set the standard for future sixth formers at Highams Park.

“We are delighted with the progress that students have made over their time with us.”
