The headteacher of a college has put his students’ exam success down to good behaviour, self-improvement and links with employers.

David Vasse, headteacher at Sir George Monoux Sixth Form College in Chingford Road, Walthamstow congratulated the youngsters after they received their A-Levels and B-TEC exam results on Thursday.

This year, the overall pass rate for exams at the school was 96 per cent, while for some subjects it was as high as 100 per cent.

Mr Vasse said: “We are thrilled with achievement on the A-level equivalent Level 3 vocational programmes.

“The results demonstrate the very strong year-on-year improvements at Monoux - this year alone a 5 per cent increase in achievement.

“Crucially, the progress made by these students from GCSE is extraordinary and significantly greater than the progress you would typically expect to see in schools and colleges.

“I believe that these results are inspired by the focus and determination that Monoux students have.

“The environment for learning that we have here, the links with employers, the standards that we set for behaviour and self-improvement - all of these contribute to academic success."

Some of the students that celebrated with their peers this week included Klaudia Guz who received an A* in physics and As in maths and chemistry.

She will go on to study electrical and electronic engineering at Southampton University.

Fahim Ma, who achieved four As, has secured a place at University College London to study biomedical engineering while Naszin Nasiru-Carew, who attained BD*D* in A-level communication and culture, BTEC law and BTEC business, will be reading law at Liverpool University.

Reem Nasir achieved A*D*B in graphic design, IT and English language and literature and is heading to Kings College London to study English language and linguistics.
