EPPING FOREST: Council urged to fight post office closures

2:19pm Monday 22nd October 2007

By David Jackman

EPPING Forest District Council leader Di Collins is calling on her council colleagues to unite and oppose the proposed closure of six post offices in the district.

Tomorrow's council meeting will be asked to support a motion that the council is "totally opposed" to the closures.

Mrs Collins says the proposal to close the Post Offices in Moreton, Willingale, Allnutts Road and Lindsey Street, Epping; and Station Way, Buckhurst Hill, and Manor Road, Chigwell, will have an adverse effect on local communities, particularly in rural areas.

The motion adds that the move fails to take account of the needs of disabled, elderly and other similar people.

More than 100 people have so far returned petition forms and coupons, or written letters, in support of the Guardian's Save Our Post Offices campaign.

To support the campaign, complete the form which appears on this website under the Save Our Post Offices section, or use the form printed in the current edition of the Epping Forest Guardian.
