TABLE-toppers Chingford romped to victory against bottom placed team Tabard.

With solid defence from John Williams, and the dogged determination of Ben Jeynes, Tabard never even threatened the home line seriously.

And to that the guile and skill of David Knight Chingford looked quality from one to 15.

With John Burnage and captain Declan Bird leading the charge, Chingford scored five tries in the first half, and four in the second, but only four were converted.

Centres Matty Lockwood and Tobias de Klerk both scored two tries each, with the latter kicking three conversions as well.

Both had to leave the field due to injuries, that eventually led to the home side playing out the final 15 minutes with 14 men, 13 when Campbell was sent to the sin bin for a ten minute period just before the end. Once again Chingford's back row were immense, with Guy Gavan, Hoad, and Luke Campbell, ensuring that every ball was challenged for and quite often turned over.

Leading those strikes was the evergreen Jan Bonney who would ghost his way through tackles, and unselfishly offload the ball to allow his youngsters to steal the glory and score the points.

Other point scorers for the hosts were Kieran Bowling, Thomas Lockwood Campbell, Ryan Pask and Neil Carlsson who also scored tries, with the latter also adding one conversion.

Chingford's happy Manager Phil Howell said: "It was a good result and it was nice to see that the players did not ease up in the second half, when the game had already been won.

"Everybody played extremely well, and there will be some hard decisions to make regarding selections this week."
