ARSENAL will be rocked ahead of 'Grand Slam Sunday' by the news that AC Milan are close to signing Mathieu Flamini.

The Daily Mail have reported that the French midfielder is heading for the San Siro this summer after so far failing to agree new terms with the Gunners.

Manager Arsene Wenger believes he can still convince Flamini to stay, although the north Londoners strict pay structure could still prove a stumbling block.

Arsenal are thought to be unwilling to pay more than £50,000 a week for the 24-year-old, who could earn much more than that in Italy as well as cash-in on his free transfer status.

But the Gunners may yet move the goal posts slightly to secure the former Mareille man, who has been a revelation at the Emirates this season.

The clubs' managing director Keith Edelman is due to meet Flamini and his representatives soon and Wenger will be hoping they can convince him that it will be better for his career to remain in London.
