THE British National Party has won its first seats on a town or parish council in the Epping Forest district taking five seats on Loughton Town Council.

Meanwhile leading protesters fighting the Parsonage golf course development in Theydon Bois, who contested the election standing as Theydon Bois Independents, have won three seats on Theydon Bois Parish Council.

The campaigners have been fighting the golf course plans, the importation of material onto the site, and the hundreds of lorries which have been carrying the material to the land, off Abridge Road.

Harry, you are not taking these people seriously enough. They want people to think they are important. Big important parish councillors. Making important decisions about... nothing.

It fills the sad vacuum in their bitter twisted lives. But now they are out in the open, so we can all know who the bad smell is coming from in Epping Forest. No Searchlights needed.

the bnp is nothing more than a racist party trying to make themselves appear to be distinguished.
they talk crap about immigration, but what they fail to realise is how much british people have become immigrants, going to places like austrailia, africa & the america's and make up most of the population in many of these places.
if the brits never went to these places in the first place in the masses, then they would not have so many immigrants coming here in the first place.

The BNP lost two out of the three seats it was defending on the district council, but won five seats on the parish council. I wonder how far the BNP will be able to take their anti-Black, anti-Muslim agenda in issues such as dog fouling and playground equipment? The single-issue BNP agenda cannot be played out on the parish council and it is only a matter of time before the bigots elected to the parish council will lose interest. I doubt most will be there in four years' time. They weren't particularly committed when it came to the district council, which has more powers. You see, the arguments over immigration and religion do not belong to a council chamber and beyond these issues the BNP has little to say.

The reason why the BNP picked up seats on the parish council is because most other parties did not bother to contest the seats and put up a full slate of candidates. They are still outnumbered by the residents association by three to one.

Anne, Loughton, Essex says...
7:57am Sun 4 May 08

My goodness, have you looked at the voting figures? Rose Brookes, twice beaten by the BNP had a clear lead by a couple of hundred votes on the BNP - the same in Fairmead.

Hardly an election for the BNP to be trumpet about - they not only lost District seats - they were clobbered.

Now let's see what the BNP can do at local level. Perhaps they could start by adding their phone numbers and email addresses to the Town Council website - or are they too scared of being contacted by their consituents who might ask them to do something on their behalf.

Why did the BNP lose out at District level? Because those of us who live in their wards know they did nothing to help us. Some of us had to contact the LRA in the end to get something done.

Despite what some of you think, the election wasn't about politics - it was about local issues and knowing who the people are who will fight for us when we need them.

Goodness knows what happened at town level but as the only responsibilities of the town council are the cemetery and the best dressed window competition at Christmas, there should be enough to keep them busy.

Richard Barnbrook wins just under 200,000 votes in Mayoral election.

The figures have finally been published and BNP London Assembly Member Richard Barnbrook polled 69,710 first preference votes PLUS 128,609 second preference votes. This making a total of 198,319 votes for Richard - which we believe is the largest vote ever for a British nationalist candidate.

I love the BNP.

I write "Anon" for fear of repercussions of having bricks thrown through my window by BNP supporters. Theydon Bois is a small place and I'd rather write anon than my real name. I'm genuinely shocked that Pat Richardson manages to reconcile being Jewish with being a BNP activist. Well done British National Party for the Epping seats and also for taking a seat at the London Assembly. For far too long it has been deemed "racist" to ask for St Georges Day, for locals to be housed first, to be concerned about the Islamification of Britain etc. Hopefully this is the start of the end of "political correctness". Immigrants should assimilate into British culture not create their own ghettos.

Jim Mitchell, Epping says...
7:52pm Sun 4 May 08

I'm Irish and in modern language am called an "immigrant". I voted BNP, because Islam is being allowed to dictate what is and isn't permissiable in Britain. Irish people integrated into British society, they didn't set up ghettos, live off benefits, ask for translations etc. I integrated into this country, Bangladeshis or Pakistanis should do the same.

Reg O'Donoghue, Manford Way (Hainault) says...
7:57pm Sun 4 May 08

I live in Hainault which is in the London Borough of Redbridge. Cllr Leppert is one of my ward Councillors. I voted Tory at the 2006 local elections. But, I must say through talking to my neighbours and family, I should have voted for Cllr Leppert. Despite concerns that the 'BNP' are a nasty party, I have heard of nothing but good. They fight for the local people on allotment issues, local housing, parking etc. Like me, people should judge them on their record, not on what they are told by the left or other critics.

Observer (original), says...

Typical bashing without checking facts or talking to the locals. You mean Cllr Leppert doesn't live in Redbridge like some other Tory, Lib Dem Cllrs in Redbridge don't? Do you criticise them? I understand he used to live / work in Woodford, and so has cultural and background links to the borough. And "observer" if you aren't going to come out from the dark and name yourself, how can people take you seriously or truthfully? As an allotment holder on Forest road, I say he does something for allotments, are you an allotment holder? Also as a former manual worker, I am thankful we finally have a working class Cllr, all others work in offices or are self employed.

150,00 votes? Flies eat s hit - doesn't mean it's good!
Funny how people in areas that are 98% white vote for the racist, fascist BNP, but white people in mixed areas with 40% ethnic groups give the BNP a very wide berth. Goes to show that some folk are a bit more clued up and don't fall for shallow arguments.

Tracy McDermott, Harold Hill says...
1:05am Mon 5 May 08

"Paul" if that is your real name. Surely it is because those in Redbridge, Havering etc used to live in East London and don't want the horror that has happened there to follow them out? Most of the people in Essex are originated from all the cockneys that moved out of Bethnal Green, Canning Town, Manor Park etc. "White flight" is a serious problem. "Multi-culturalism" is being rejected across Europe, for example in Italy, Rome has just elected a right centered leader.

Tony Partridge, Harold Hill says...

"People are often prone to spurious, simplistic arguments. They voted for Hitler. Don't be fooled again". What an arrogant statement!!! I'm sorry were not all as clever as you must be?! You surely must be a Labour moll.

Essex Lady, Essex says...
1:30am Mon 5 May 08

Paul, Walthamstow - maybe people who live in majority white areas vote BNP because they want their area to stay that way.

As for shallow arguments, do you want to live under Sharia Law?
Have you got young children whose education is being put at risk because their teachers have to concentrate on learning English to ethnic children?
Or possibly you have kids who are finding it increasingly hard to get a job, due to cheap labour being imported.
Or have you tried going to your local council for housing - if you are white & British do not bother you will be at the back of the queue.

Get back into your PC box and maybe, just maybe you will smell the stink that our "leaders" are heaping upon us in the name of "enrichment"

At least the BNP are giving people a light at the end of a VERY long tunnel that they have had to watch and feeling abandoned. People are voting for this party beacause they want their country back and they also want to
safeguard their culture.

I was born in England, my neighbourhood was made up of English and Irish kids. That is how it should be, white people who share the same values. One an area becomes "ethnic" like Ilford, Gants Hill etc - No White people move in. Why? Because they are surrounded by Asian cultures that dominate all others. Asian people are as racist as White people. Every culture thinks it's is the best. The trouble with the left argument is that it thinks only the white working class are racist. It dosen't seem the problems on the other side or Islamic fundamentalism at the extreme.

There is no absolute entitlement for a foreign national to get housing because they are an immigrant. The problem is that when they all come here they have "no fixed abode" and so therefore they are deemed "homeless". They normally also have children or a family. It is because of this they are given more points by the Housing Teams and subsequently housed quicker than a young 18 English lad just wanting to move out. Locals should get housed before foreigners. I wouldn't get nothing if I went to Pakistan, India or Nigeria. England needs to wake up, we can't house the rest of the world - this ain't the United Nations Housing Association.

Anne, Loughton says...
12:55pm Mon 5 May 08

I keep on hearing about whites being put at the back of the housing queue. How does that happen?

All local authorities restrict membership of the housing register until a family has lived in the borough / district for a number of years.

Asylum seekers and anyone else with a housing need - and children (why should we house single people? will be put into temporary accommodation.

Have you forgotten the Tories made LAs sell off much of their housing stock under the right to buy scheme. That's why so many people in Debden own their own houses and why so few of the houses are available to prospective tenants.

It's nothing to do with migrants - so why do the BNP keep saying it is?

If anyone knows any different, can they give us examples and not just generalisations.

Claire Trueman, Debden says...
1:39pm Mon 5 May 08

Katrina - you have summed up the situation well. Go to any housing office at the Council and you will see who is being housed. You've also hit the nail on the head about how migrants are classed as homeless and so accrue more 'points' on the housing register. A shocking state of affairs that migrants get housed before the locals. My granddad didn't fight in the war for his family to be behind the queue.

Jackie Hayward, Buckhurst Hill says...

By 2050 the English will essentially be an "ethnic minority". Asians will be the predominant ethnic group. This is because a) immigration into the UK from countries outside the EU is much higher and b) ethnic groups tend to have a much higher birth rate than the indigenous population.

Truth, Epping says...
2:52pm Mon 5 May 08

Jackie: South Asians are the overwhelming majority in Dubai, while the local inhabitants comprise just 10% of the population. Dubai is a great economic success story thanks to the Indians, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis who work there. Perhaps it would be no bad thing to have Asians as a majority in the UK.

Jackie Hayward, Buckhurst Hill says...
2:56pm Mon 5 May 08

Is that the same Dubai that says that they are not entitled to citizenship as they are not Arabs. And likewise cannot marry an Arab? Truth - although not an apt user name for you - get your facts right. Also, why should Asians be a majority in England? Why should the English be decimated. No English are emmigrating to Pakistan etc.

John O'Rourke, Kilburn says...
2:59pm Mon 5 May 08

Immigration is alright if it's a bit. Not if it is so much it takes over the whole country. That is paramount to invasion. Secondly, no-one wants to vote BNP or even likes there policies. But, they are not being listened to by the major parties on mass immigration and multi-culturalism. The liberal-left need to address these concerns, rather than just attack the BNP.

Irish terrorists were blowing up shopping centres and members of the Irish community in London were cheering it on. Everyone has conveniently forgotten the fact that Irish terrorists attempted to kill the entire cabinet of an elected British government in Brighton. As for the BNP, they created Combat 18 ("18" representing the letters A and H, for Adolf Hitler), which carried out violent assaults on black, homosexual and Jewish people and spawned terrorists such as David Copeland, the nail bomber. Being white British or Irish doesn't make you less likely to be a terrorist.

Why shouldn't they? It is a globalised world where everyone is moving around. English people are living in France, Spain, Australia, the US, Canada, etc. Why can't people move here? Are you going to stop people from leaving the country so they are not in danger of becoming "less English"?

3:14pm Mon 5 May 08

Jackie: 150,000 BNP voters is not a majority of London. The overwhelming majority of people reject the BNP. A majority of people in Loughton also reject the BNP. The BNP represents an extreme fringe of politics - fortunately for the decent majority, who are not racist even if they may want more control over immigration.

John O'Rourke, Kilburn says...

Everyone, including the Irish detested the bombing campaign in England by the IRA, as the people of the Republic of Ireland did the bombs of the Loyalist or Unionist para military groups. You also forget that there were not 2nd or 3rd generation Irish Londoners who committed 'suicide bombings' as we see today. This fight is a completely different beast. You also seem to negatively stereotype a whole community "members of the Irish community..." etc, that is bad practice and loses the argument. It is also extremely bad for community relations, those relations that ex-Mayor Livingstone strived so hard to re-build.

David Copeland was not in the BNP when he committed his attrocities, he had been thrown out - it is a matter of public record. He was a warped young man.

As much as you can despise them. The IRA were fighting for something tangible - namely the 6 counties of Northern Ireland. The IRA are illegal in the Republic of Ireland. Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah are not in Iran, Syria etc.

The IRA were also a regional group, Islamic terror cells are fighting a worldwide campaign. You could also see what the IRA were fighting for, however abhorrent, and it had a solution. Likewise there bombing campaign was more about publicity for the "cause". They would also phone through and let people know about attacks. The Islamist Terrorist groups we see now are only interested in mass killings of western targets e.g. 7/7 tube bombings, Bali, failed Glasgow attacks, Madrid, Istanbul British Consulate bombing, failed Bristol bombings etc. The Islamists hate western values, they are not fighting for land or money. They want an end to western secularism and democratic values.

The fact is the new Radical Islamist terrorist is often homegrown - 2nd, 3rd generation young Muslims. Something has gone wrong with the multi-cultural policies of the last couple of decades. We need a more integrationist approach to ensure community cohesion. Finally the Irish community never had a problem assimilating. They were not given benefits, housing or help with "discrimination" that we see groups from Pakistan etc get today. The Irish navvy built many of the buildings in England. They worked hard but also worked hard at blending in with the host culture. Why? Because "when in Rome you should do as the Romans do"..

"Truth" you miss the point. Only 45% voted in the Mayoral and GLA elections. That's not even half of the electorate (even less than the total London populus). Yet it was much higher a turnout than was expected and hugely up on previous elections. But, with your logic it would mean that Livingstones last two terms and now Boris Johnsons win was not endoresed the majority of Londoners. Likewise our PM was not voted in by the UK electorate, he was swept to power by a now small and decimated fringe party called 'the labour party'. Wake up and smell the coffee un-"truth".

Truth, Epping says...
4:14pm Mon 5 May 08

Jackie: Whatever you say, the BNP are less popular than Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and even the Greens. Sure, the minority of the electorate vote in the government. That's the problem with the electoral system. Yet, even under the more proportional system in London, the BNP vote was less than the Greens. The BNP is a fringe party, it is not the voice of a "silent majority".

John: You talk of assimilation and integration, but this is not what the BNP wants. The BNP is essentially after the mass deportation of the non-white population, regardless of whether or not these residents are British citizens, either by birth or naturalisation. They want apartheid, not integration. The election of BNP councillors is likely to make non-white people more wary of whites and less likely to integrate or assimilate. Would a BNP pub welcome an Indian as a regular? Of course not, the BNP is just the white supremacist version of the Islamic extremists.

Michael Arronowich, Stratford says...
4:59pm Mon 5 May 08

But surely the BNP just wants to stop the Islamification of Britain? One of there Cllrs in Barking and Dagenham is of Turkish origin, whilst they have a Jewish cllr in Epping Forest. "Truth" you use old arguments, that might work against the National Front. But, not against the modern BNP. A white friend of mine told me that he was more wary of Bangladeshi muslims with the election of Respect Cllrs in Tower Hamlets. Why? Because they played the Race / Religion card.

Anne, Loughton - you requested an example of English people being put to the back of the local housing queue. I'll give you a true story of the state this country has become, I know it's true because one of the people concerned is MY son, a 30year old man.

My son applied to part buy part rent a flat (he could not afford to buy outright)as he was not eligable for a council place because he works. There were two other english single people applying under the same scheme, and in the same situation as him.

Firstly they had to prove they had a connection with the borough, which they all had. The three of them had gone to the same schools and were born and bred in the borough, so they passed the connection "test" and were allowed to part buy part rent their new flats, incedently those flat's cost them £150,000, admittedly they are very nice, fully carpetted, all white goods etc.

This is where my story gets blurred, the three youngsters all move into their new flats (which is a block of six). Guess who got the remaining three identical flats - Yes, you may have guessed right if you said Africans. But they were not families of Africans they were all single men (at least two of the flat's were two bedroomed). Now what connection did they have with the said borough - NONE whatsoever.

When a story like this happens to you - and rest assured it will, then tell me that you would not be annoyed.

My son and his friends all have to go to work to provide and be responsible for themselves (and quite rightly so)whilst their neighbours sit at home all day watching TV etc, playing loud music all night and being a general nuisance to other residents - whilst our kids have to work to give the asylum seekers the pleasure of living off of them.

Do not tell me this is right and fair, because it is'nt.

Michaela Shepherd, Ilford says...

"Truth" you talk about a BNP pub not welcoming an Indian. But is there a pub called National Front , BNP or White / Patriot etc? No, I think not. But in Ilford there is a bowling alley called "Bollywood Bowl". Would this be receptive to English clientale, the name suggests not.

Jackie Hayward, Buckhurst HIll says...
5:05pm Mon 5 May 08

Essex lady - it isn't fair. And, it's not racist to say it isn't - it's common sense. I have black friends, they agree. They work hard for there money. Why should our taxes subsidise work shy asylum seekers. People like 'Anne' and 'truth' are apologists for asylum seekers / illegal immigrants etc. They don't care jack about local people and the daily struggles we face.

Elizabeth Wright, Collier Row says...
5:11pm Mon 5 May 08

'Essex Lady' very same story happened to my sister when she bought her part buy/part rent in Romford. She found out from talking to an African next door that they got theres from Hackney Council who have moved out tenants they couldn't house into other boroughs in East London. They have no connection to Havering, yet have presumably jumped the queue on other young local people. Something has gone very wrong in our country.

Jackie: I favour abolition of all state funding for welfare, healthcare, etc, the end of restrictions on the labour market (eg minimum wage) and the removal of all border controls. Whatever identity one chooses to assume is largely irrelevant to the functioning of the economy. It's simply a subjective construct that changes with time and place. The state should have nothing to do with enforcing "Englishness", whatever that means. It also should have nothing to do with enforcing "multi-culturalism". Culture and religion are matters of individual choice. The BNP is a statist party, which is one of the reasons I oppose it.

Carry on quoting half truths and repeating distorted stories if it makes you feel better. Don't mention the tax-dodging and profit mongering activities of the rich. Immigrants are not the cause of unaffordable housing/lack of housing/low pay etc. That would be capitalism. Shall we return to the shangri-la pre-mass immigration Dickensian times? Perhaps we are.
I shall stay in Walthamstow with my Jamaican wife and white and mutiracial neighbours.
I see some individuals are now admitting that they don't like living next to people with a different colour skin. One day perhaps, humanity will rise above such shallow concepts as race.

Nor the subsquent pressures on housing, policing, school places etc. Local Authorities admit themselves, it is a matter of sheer numbers. They do not receive adequate grants from central government to cover it. In the meantime, local people continue to suffer, including all races.

I don't think they are bizarre opinions. I am consistent. The state has too much control over areas of life it has no business in. I believe in liberty and freedom from the state.

We are human beings and not merely workers within a system to make money.

I don't want to be a cog of the state. I certainly don't want someone in power dictating to me what my cultural or religious preferences should be, particularly a party that wants to force its narrow concept of "Englishness" or "Britishness" on me or tell me what colour of person I should marry and what god they should worship. Equally, I'm not keen on state patronage for multi-culturalism, in which everyone is forced to define themselves in terms of their ethnic origin, which is just the same social engineering coin but the opposite side to the BNP.

For what it's worth my views on immigration are this. I am 63, I came here when I was 14 from Ireland. I've worked on the building sites all my life and have mixed with all sorts. Whatever the perception - no immigrant is widely accepted by Britain. They have to work for all they get. But, one of the recent trends that really hacks me off is that whenever the media talk about immigrants they pick on Eastern Europeans. These people are in the EU, they are part of the same club as us, the club that allows us to retire to Spain, France or Ireland. They also share our same European culture and Christianity. The fact is, immigration from Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Bangladesh is far higher than that of EU immigration. And whats more immigration from outside the EU is where the largest amount of illegal immigration come from. These people do not sure out culture and often create their own ethnic ghettos.

Reports today again show that England is one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. Far higher than Germany or France - even though these countries are far larger than England. Britain is full up, we can't keep building one bedroom flats and cheap housing for immigrants. It's a mad policy. If we need more workers, why don't the government think longer term. They should put measures and incentives in place to encourage English and Irish kids to have more children. This would increase the birth rate and so help fuel our future economy. Instead we take the young workers from developing countries and leave their home countries to stagnate. It's hardly fair.

I agree with Charlotte. What a bizarre and short term idea to import immigrants to boost the population. Surely, as you suggest, the best long term strategy is to try and boost the indigenous birth rate. It is a good idea. An incentive based scheme could be devised, perhaps adding to the current system where the government gives a new born £250 for a starter bank account. Well said Charlotte. I hope local politicians take heed.

Human rights in this country now favours the illegal immigrants. Why were those Afghan hijackers (the one who hijacked a passenger plane and flew to Stansted) a few years back allowed to stay here?! The liberal-left come out with politician type answers. They don't live in the read world! My lad is 17, he is a trainee plumber. He had a training contract with a central London plumbing firm and was really enjoying it. Yet, recently he was told his contract would be terminating and that the company would not be taking him and the other 3 lads on the same course on. Why? Because they have just recruited about 6 immigrant plumbers for less money. Why should immigration hold back the future prospects of young English kids? If the immigrants were office based or solicitors we would soon here the middle classes scream about closing the gates. My lad will find it virtually impossible to get another plumber contract now as he does not have the required vocational experience and is so far gone into his academic stage. That is the experience most people are having of "immigration".

Paul, Walthamstow says...

Fight for workers' rights and decent pay for all like we used to instead of the flexible labour market.

Jackie Hayward, Buckhurst Hill says...
12:23pm Thu 8 May 08

"Paul" - if thats your real name. You miss the point. The reason why employers stoped using child labour in Dickensians Britain was because of legislation - a pro-active commitment by our elected representatives to stamp it out. Thus, we need todays MPs to stop immigration and listen to public opinion. Illegal immigration is having a detrimental affect on the income of the working class, damaging our culture, increasing the terrorist threat and lack of housing / pressures on NHS / School places etc. For all the alleged gains of immigration byt the rich, Britain is losing so much of itself, losing what made it. These pressures are accutely felt by the average Brit.

Paul, Walthamstow says...
3:31pm Thu 8 May 08

What's to stop employers doing all they can to drive down wages anyway? Less people equals less customers equals less jobs for a start! Do you really believe that employers would suddenly become all reasonable and employ more people on proper contracts and pay higher wages just because the population drops to...what - 40-50 million?!
Look at class and stop obsessing with race and blaming it on immigrants (which we all were once!). The postwar years up to the 70's years saw Africans and Asians working alongside white workers, joining trade unions and fighting together to maintain and improve pay and conditions. Stronger TU's and labour laws largely prevented them being driven down. Unity not division. Big business supported Hitler and vice versa. Learn from history.
I have more in common with people in Walthamstow of all backgrounds than any narrow minded types elsewhere.

Frank Delaney, Hainault says...
3:44pm Thu 8 May 08

In response to your post to Jackie Hayward: Erm something called the minimum wage that all British people adhere to. The problem is you have illegal immigrants who aren't in the system or paying tax and these can work for unscrupulous employers. These drive down the pay. Everyone knows part of Nu Labours economic policy has been to import large numbers of immigrants to keep wage inflation down. Why should England become multi-cultural when India, Pakistan, Africa etc will all remain ethnically homogenous? As a white, Christian, man I would not get anywhere claiming "equal rights" in Pakistan, for example. Why should England always be the pushover?! On a final note, todays Walthamstow has become a slum both aesthetically and in terms of crime rates. It bears little resemblence to years ago. Another benefit (!) of multi-culturalism.

Paul, Walthamstow says...
9:32pm Thu 8 May 08

What nonsense some people speak! Pakistan has over two million Afghan refugess, for starters! Every country - other than those suffering from war or famine - has immigrants.

rs. We should be fighting for workers' rights and opposing racism and fascism.

Cyril Johnston, Silvertown says...
12:24pm Fri 9 May 08

Sorry Paul you're wrong. Aren't Afghanis Muslim? Big cultural difference for the Pakistanis to make, NOT. Those countries will remain ehtnically and culturally homogenous whilst the UK becomes an Asian outpost. Eastern Europeans are not the problem, most of them are in the EU. The same EU that allows our citizens to go to France, Spain etc. Immigration from outside the EU is far higher (even at the height of the immigration from the new EU member states). Pakistan, Nigeria, Somalia and Bangladesh are the largest nationalities that come here. An end to this lunacy. Thank goodness the BNP are the fastest growing political party, membership wise, in the UK.

Paul, Walthamstow not Debden/Loughton! says...

Surely the reason why they don't do better, is because unlike any other party they have groups trying to stop them getting elected. E.g.
