JUANDE RAMOS believes his new-look Tottenham side can challenge the top four for a place in the Champions League next season.

Ramos will oversee a dramatic overhaul in playing staff this summer, and is determined that his side will be ready to mount a serious assault on the seemingly immovable big four' of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

"I believe that Tottenham should be competing with the top four," Ramos told Sky Sports. "To achieve that we need to fix a few things and we cannot remain in the lower half of the table.

"We are analysing the players every day in training and in the games they are playing. But I believe we already know what staff we want for next year."

Luka Modric became the Spaniard's first summer signing and a number of other names have been thrown into the mixing pot, but Ramos insists he has a clear idea of the players on his hitlist.

"My obligation is to let the club know which players we need and the club then puts this into practice if they can. I am completely supported by the club and there is a direct and clear communication on the best way to achieve this.

"You are always thinking about what you are going to do for next season and the time for putting that into practice will be during pre-season.

"There has been a tremendous improvement in the players. We tried to change things that were not right. I accept there are different cultures, but we try to take advantage of the good things in each country.

"We have had a very positive first season. We have achieved a lot in a short space of time. When we arrived the team was in a difficult and uncomfortable position.

"But we started to play some good football and people began to believe in the work we were doing."
