Early signs look good for Orient striker's knee injury

THE early signs look positive for Orient striker Wayne Gray's knee injury, although he still isn't out of the woods just yet.

Gray went to see a knee specialist at the Lister Hospital, Victoria, to get a second opinion on scans on the injury that he suffered during Saturday's 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

The former Yeovil frontman already knew that he had damaged his medial ligament and was just hoping that he hadn't damaged his cruciate ligament as well.

And relieved manager Martin Ling was pleased to confirm today that his ten-goal striker appears to have escaped the latter injury.

He said: "At the moment we are still a little in the dark, because there is a lot of swelling and bruising around the cruciate ligament.

"The surgeon confirmed that Wayne had damaged his medial ligament, but thought that the cruciate was still in tact.

"But because of the swelling and bruising he couldn't confirm that and Wayne will need to go back to him in about a months time.

"So it is still a bit of a suck it and see situation, but at this stage the early signs look good.

"If he had done the cruciate then he would miss a large chunk of the season, but as it stands it only looks like a six to eight week injury.

"Hopefully it will stay that way, because while Wayne would miss the start of pre-season he would still be able to join in by the end of it and be ready for the new campaign."
