EPPING FOREST: District's tree hunt to feature on television

THE hunt for the district's 50 favourite trees is to be featured on the BBC2 programme Trees That Made Britain' at 7.30pm on Friday, May 16.

A film crew filmed the judging panel as they reviewed the 160-plus nominations, and also filmed at Thomas Willingale School, in Loughton, where an oak tree was under threat.

The school's pupils nominated the tree, making a special case for it with the council, and it was eventually saved.

Epping Forest District Council's landscape officer and arboriculturist Chris Neilan said: "The 50 Favourite Trees project has been a fantastic success and we all very much enjoyed taking part in the progamme.

"I hope as many people as possible will tune in, especially those residents who took the time and trouble to nominate their favourite tree."

Another tree featured in the programme is the black poplar on the Waltham Point development, in Waltham Abbey. The tree was protected during the development and is now a focal point for the area.
