Former Spurs boss set for a return to football

FORMER Spurs boss Martin Jol has been appointed the new manager of German side Hamburg.

The Dutch coach was sacked by Tottenham last October despite guiding the side to their highest league position in 16 years.

But Jol will succeed Huub Stevens at Hamburg, who left the club to take over at PSV Eindhoven.

HSV chairman, Bernd Hoffmann, told the club's official website: "We are sure that we have appointed the right coach for HSV."

Jol was due to take over the Bundesliga team last week, but following speculation over the imminent departure of Sven Goran Eriksson at Manchester City, he put the move on hold after reports suggested City owner Thaksin Shinawatra would make an offer to the 52-year-old coach.
