ARSENAL striker Carlos Vela has stoked the heated rivalry between the north London clubs by claiming that Tottenham new boy Giovani Dos Santos is deserving of a better club.

Dos Santos became Spurs' second major signing of the summer when he recently joined from Barcelona for a fee that could rise to £8.5million. However Vela believes the move is simply a stepping stone to better things.

"I hope things go well for him at Tottenham, that he gets the minutes he wasn't given at Barcelona and that he shows what he can do," said Vela.

"He is a very good player and let's hope he can then move on to a better team."

The two young Mexicans are best friends having progressed through the country's various youth teams together. Next season will see them pitted as opponents though for the first time in their careers.

Vela signed for Arsene Wenger's side three years ago but has only just secured the work permit needed to play in the Premiership after spending time at Spanish clubs Celta Vigo, Salamanca and most recently Osasuna.

The comments will likely endear him to his new fans as much as they will anger those in N17.
