The photograph of Hemnall Street, Epping, c1905 predates the war memorial which was built in 1920.
With the improvement of the main road through Epping in the early 19th Century, traffic through the town rapidly increased.
Up to 25 coaches per day travelled to and from London, Norwich, Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds and elsewhere.
