SIR Winston Churchill's grandson Nicholas Soames MP was the guest when Epping Forest Conservatives celebrated the constituency's connection with Winston Churchill.

Attending the Churchill Dinner, Mr Soames spoke about his grandfather, describing not only his political and military successes but also his dedication to his literary works, to his painting and his bricklaying.

The dinner was held in a marquee at the home of John and Gillian Padfield and was attended by nearly 200 people from all over Essex.

Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing said: "I thought it was time we had a formal celebration of our connection with Winston Churchill who was, of course, MP for our area for most of his time in parliament.

I was delighted to be able to introduce Nicholas Soames to several current members of Epping Forest Conservative Association who were Young Conservatives when Winston Churchill was MP."
