WALTHAMSTOW: Police appeal to commuters over murder

POLICE have issued a new appeal for commuters to come forward with vital information to help the Yusufu Miiro murder investigation.

Student Mr Miiro, 20, was found suffering from stab wounds to his head and his chest at St David's Court, Parkstone Road, Walthamstow, on July 10.

Officers investigating the killing area urging anyone who was in the area of Wood Street train station around the time of the incident to contact them with information.

It is believed the suspect fled in the direction of Wood Street train station after attacking Mr Miiro at an address in St David's Court, Parkstone Road.

The suspect is described as black, aged late teens or early 20s, 6ft 2inches of slim build, wearing a dark hooded top, possibly wearing a white full-face mask.

Investigating officer, acting DCI Bob Mahoney said: "I would like to speak to people who were in the area of Wood Street station between 8pm and 9pm, specifically people who arrived at the station at 8.05pm travelling on the Liverpool Street to Chingford service.

"I would also like to speak to anyone with information who got on the train at Wood Street at 8:47pm travelling on the Chingford to Liverpool Street service.

"Did you get on or off these trains and see a man fitting this description heading at speed towards Wood Street station, into Forest Road?

"It is vital that we trace this man as soon as possible. He will have been heavily bloodstained and in an agitated state. We urge anyone with information to contact us."

Police were called at 8.38 on July 10 to reports of a man suffering stab wounds at an address in St David's Court.

When they arrived, they found Yusufu Miiro, of Stratford, suffering from stab wounds to his head and chest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem gave cause of death as stab wounds to the chest.

An incident room has opened under DCI Bob Mahoney HSCC.

Mr Miiro, a student, had been visiting a friend in St David's Court when he was attacked in the stairwell close to the property.

He managed to reach the flat before collapsing.

Detectives are keen to speak to any witnesses, in particular anyone who may have seen a man running from the scene.

He was seen to flee the scene towards Wyatts Lane, close to Wood Street.

A police spokesman said that officers were keeping an open mind as to motive at this stage.
