A STUDENT at Bexley Grammar School has just set off for Romania on a mercy trip he has been planning for 18 months.

Keith Settle set off with another classmate and four staff last Friday in two lorries filled with relief aid for needy communities in the Bucharest area of southern Romania.

Inspired by the school's aid runs in the early 1990s, Keith has spent a year-and-a-half organising fundraising events and planning the trip, with the help of fellow sixth former Anita Madlani.

Fellow pupils supported his efforts, taking part in a talent show, non-uniform days, a sponsored spelling test and other events to raise money for the 10-day trip.

His route and Romanian contacts have come via Network Gloria, a charitable group run by a former head of department at Bexley Grammar School. The supplies include clothing, school supplies and wheelchairs.
