WOOLWICH-born Terry Malone was today being installed as the new mayor of Greenwich.
The 68-year-old, who became the youngest member of Woolwich Council in 1962, takes over as the borough's ceremonial civic leader from Councillor Jagir Sekhon.
During 24 years' council service, Cllr Malone has represented the wards of Eltham Green and Sherard. His current ward is Tarn.
His chosen charity appeals over the next year are the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice, where he hopes to help create a new children's playground, and fund-raising for beds at Queen Elizabeth Hospital's children's ward.
The deputy mayor will be Cllr Sajid Jawaid, who represents Charlton.
