THE PROBLEM of card cloning at Morrisons in Chingford may have been been going on for well over a year, the Guardian can reveal.
Shoppers have lost hundreds of pounds after their cards were cloned at the supermarket.
Morrisons has refused to apologise to customers, but said card readers which may have been tampered with continued to be used.
Derek Green, 75, of Wellington Avenue, Chingford, said: “18 months ago, I used my credit card at Morrisons for a £10/£12 payment at the fast till.
“A few weeks later, I received a call from the managing director of a manufacturer in the north of England.”
The manufacturer informed Mr Green he had received an order from India and had been given his credit card details for payment.
“He declined their order and warned me of the fraud,” Mr Green said.
He is a regular customer of Morrisons and had not used his card elsewhere.
“On this one occasion, I had a credit card in my wallet which I kept for emergencies,” he said.
“It had never been used before and I didn’t realise what had happened until this gentleman rang me.”
Meanwhile, the Guardian is continuing to receive reports of card fraud at the store.
Marlene Kenneally, 74, of High Beech, Loughton has lost £300 after three separate attempts were made in Canada to withdraw cash from her account.
“I’m £300 down at the moment,” she said.
“The bank stopped the first two, but missed the third.”
