A ROCK fan, who tattooed himself with the Virgin Radio logo to win concert tickets, has vowed to go back under the needle after the station announced a name change.

Grant Marzell, of Peregrine Road, Hainault, took the extreme step last year when he branded his right arm with the bright red logo, complete with bandwidth, in order to compete for a pair of highly sought after Led Zeppelin tickets.

Upset to be one of the million die-hard fans who tried unsuccessfully to buy tickets when they went on general sale, Mr Marzell entered the competition which asked listeners to prove their commitment to the band.

With other entrants streaking through London and even having their chests waxed live on air to prove their dedication, Mr Marzell knew he would have to up his game and, when he finally faced the needle, he won the tickets for the band’s first gig in 27 years.

Mr Marzell has now vowed to have a new tattoo.

He said: “When they mentioned the name change on the air I jokingly texted them saying I would have to change my tattoo.

“The DJ thought it was a really good idea and I thought, why not, you only live once.”

The station has been bought out by a subsidiary of India’s largest media company, the Times of India, and will announce its new name next month, when plans are already afoot for Mr Marzell to have his latest body art created live on air.

He said: “I have one other tattoo on my chest and when I had that done I vowed I would never do it again.

“My mother was devastated with the first Virgin one as I’m Jewish, so not supposed to scar my body, but that just shows how much I love Led Zeppelin.

“This news has upset her a bit but I’ve just told her not to read the papers.”
