SIX people will appear in court accused of being involved in a large mortgage fraud.

It is claimed a company bought 84 new flats in Thamesmead, south-east London, and re-sold them at prices above their value to mortgage customers who would not normally qualify.

The alleged fraud came to light when banks and building societies discovered the properties’ true value when the flats came to be sold or repossessed.

Sofiyah Ahmed, 26, of Howard Road, Walthamstow, was charged with conspiracy to defraud.

George Sourou, 42, of The Crescent, Ilford, has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and five counts of money laundering.

Brad Sean Fisher, 42, of Tiptree Crescent, Ilford, has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and two counts of money laundering.

They will appear with three other alleged conspirators at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Three other men remain on bail in relation to the investigation.
