A DAYTIME meeting for residents to ask questions about Harlow Council’s proposed waste and recycling collections is to be held - for those who could not attend recent evening meetings. The meeting is in the council chamber, at the Civic Centre, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Friday, October 17.

The two evening meetings, on September 17 and 22, were attended by more than 180 people. Councillors and officers from Harlow District Council and Essex County Councils were on hand to answer questions about the proposals.

A meeting also took place with the Harlow Pensioners Action Group.

Harlow Council leader Andrew Johnson said: “We’ve done what we said we would do - face the public and give them the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about the significant challenges authorities are facing over waste, and therefore why we are proposing changes to the system.

"The meetings also gave residents the opportunity to view the wheelie bins and containers, which could be used in the town next year, first hand.

"We’ve had enquiries from people who couldn’t attend the evening meetings so have arranged a further meeting to take place in the day. After this we will continue to keep local residents up to date with progress and we will make announcements when we can.

"There is also plenty of information on our website – www.harlow.gov.uk/wastecontract - where people can find out more about the proposals and view a list of frequently asked questions.

"In the coming months the council will be evaluating bids as part of the process and the final system and contractors will be announced after the council sets it budget in February next year.”

Places at the meeting must be booked in advance by ringing Terri Marjoram on 01279 446869 or emailing terri.marjoram@harlow.gov.uk.
