Outstanding 'life catcher' receives international acclaim

A GIFTED snapper has received special acclaim in an international photography competition.

After Wanstead resident Carole Edrich won the British heat of the Sony-Ericsson Life Catcher award, she then went on to be singled-out as ‘outstanding’ in the international section by Oscar-nominated film director Mike Figgis.

Ms Edrich, who specialises in dance and travel endurance photography, said many of her competition entries were taken in and around Wanstead.

She added: “At first we just had to submit ten photos but then at the last minute Mike Figgis said that he couldn’t decide on those alone and asked us all for another 20.

“It was the Mayor’s Thames festival that weekend and so I just had to take some shots while I was working at that and never thought that I would win.

“He made a short film using shots from all the finalists and it was brilliant to receive a special mention for my work.”

Ms Edrich has no plans to rest on her laurels and soon plans to take on the challenge of photographing Vuelta Colombia, the mountainous Colombian equivalent of the Tour De France, for a new book.

Some of her work can be seen at a free exhibition from November 7 to January 14 in Zero Sette Italian Restaurant by London Dockland’s Excel Centre.
