OAP defies walking stick mugger

A PENSIONER stood his ground when a teenage mugger threatened him with his own walking stick.

The 88-year-old was walking along Lancaster Road, Leytonstone, when he was attacked from behind.

The mugger grabbed the walking stick and threatened to hit him with it unless he handed over money.

But the proud pensioner confronted the robber and refused to give in to his demands.

The teenager, described as black, about 17 years old, 5ft 10ins and wearing scruffy clothing, then ran off towards Montague Road still clutching the stick.

The incident happened at about 11.05am on Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Acting Det Sgt Fenton Davis at Chingford CID on 8345 3166 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Is there a good reason why this item does not include the date and time of this outrageous attack?
I hope the hero of this story is OK.
And I hope the villain has a hard job living with his conscience - if he has one

Good - a day and time of this crime has now been given. Almost perfect

Brave man, and I'm glad he wasn't injured. But you do wonder why we allow this. And we do allow it -- in a society where teenagers terrorise each other with guns and knives, a couple of weeks in jail is nothing to worry about.
