A MULTI-million pound investment scheme is in place to provide a boost for training and employment opportunities in Waltham Forest.
It is hoped thousands of people will benefit from a grant of more than £7 million, which will be channelled into the borough's Olympics programme.
The money will be spent on the development of the Construction Training Centre, Cathall Road, Leyton, the first phase of which was opened in July.
Now, in order to comply with the grant’s condition, detailed specifications for the main centre are being developed.
Cabinet member for enterprise and investment Terry Wheeler said: “The cash boost was vital to harnessing the opportunities provided by the 2012 Games and their legacy."
Alongside training programmes already available, other courses - including paving and using power tools - will be starting at the centre in the next few weeks on an interim basis.
The grant, supplied by the Learning Skills Council, was agreed after the council, the London Development Agency, Olympic Delivery Authority and Construction Skills, jointly applied for funds.
