IMPROVEMENTS are being made at Harlow Bus Station in Terminus Street, designed to make life easier for passengers.

A range of building improvements costing about £88,000 have been announced by Harlow Council and will be complete by March 31 next year.

A new bus shelter will be installed to replace the existing damaged one, and seating will be replaced in waiting rooms.

In response to public demand, the public information kiosk will also be moved to the waiting room for ease of access.

Changes are also being made to departure stands from Monday, November 3, following consultation with bus operators.

Arriva Buses will depart from stands 1 to 7, S.M coaches from stands 8 to 10 and stands 11 to 13 will be shared by other bus companies.

Coaches for Stansted and Heathrow Airports will operate from stand 14.

Harlow Council environment and community committee chairman Eddie Johnson said: “I am pleased we are able to carry out these improvements to make life better for bus passengers. The standard of the facilities is not as high as we would like so I’m sure they will be welcomed by local residents.”

Speaking about the departure stand changes, Mr Johnson said: “It’s important that regular bus users are aware of the changes because from November 3 the departure stand where they pick up their bus will change. This is being done to improve passenger access and to avoid buses queuing to get onto the stands for the busiest services.

"The changes will also make for speedier departures. Information on the new stands will be handed out at the terminus, but if anyone is unsure of where to catch their bus, they can ask at the ticket office. As a final safeguard please check the route information on the front of the bus before boarding.”
