A SRI LANKAN woman found dead in a Walthamstow park was strangled, police have revealed.

The partially clothed body of Michelle Samaraweera, 35, was discovered by a passerby in a park in Queens Road, near to Kelmsctott Leisure Centre, at 5.50am on Saturday, May 30.

Police are still trying to establish whether she was sexually assaulted before being killed.

Police initially withheld the cause of death 'for operational reasons'.

Detectives have released two CCTV images of her taken shortly before her death in the nearby Somerfield service station in Markhouse Road.

DCI Caroline Goode said: "Michelle was wearing a very distinctive black jacket with white parallel lines down the sleeves.

"We know she was in the Somerfield shop, which is attached to the 24-hour petrol station, between 1am and approx 1.15am but we have no other sightings of her between 10pm on Friday, May 29 and the time when her body was found at around 5.50am on Saturday.

"I need to hear from anyone who saw Michelle between 10pm on Friday night and 6am Saturday morning and anyone who was in the Queens Road and Markhouse Road areas between those time.

"I would like to hear from anyone who may have information about the murder."

Four men arrested over the weekend in connection with the killing have been bailed pending further enquiries.
