A man is in a serious condition after being attacked in South Woodford. Pulteney Road and George Lane are currently closed off as police investigate.

A MAN is in a "serious" condition in hospital after being attacked in a South Woodford street earlier this evening.

The assault is believed to have happened at around 7.45pm in Pulteney Road.

George Lane, one of South Woodford's busiest roads, has been closed in both directions between Pulteney Road and Chigwell Road/Southview Drive as a result, while police at the scene investigate.

A police spokeswoman told the Guardian: "We have made no arrests at this time."

Parts of George Lane and some areas surrounding South Woodford underground station are expected to remain closed until at least midnight.
