SPENDING on acquiring land for the 2012 Games as gone over buget, it has been confirmed.

The London Development Agency (LDA) had earmarked £1.1 million to purchase the site in Stratford and relocate residents and businesses.

Addressing the London Assembly, director of strategy Andrew Travers said accountants have been called in because he expects to exceed budget.

Two senior members of staff were recently suspended when auditors found a funding gap of between £60 million and £100 million in the LDA’s budget.

More than 3,000 businesses and individuals were paid for land on the Olympic Park site through Compulsory Purchase Orders.

Mr Travers said there was no evidence of wrongdoing and KPMG had been brought in to examine accounts and make recommendations.
