I do like the flowers they have put round the station in your photo. It really brightens the place up.

I did see in James' O'Rourkes web site he credits these with being a good measure for combatting crime:

"Residents have stopped me in the street to tell me how much they appreciated the planters brightening up the areas where they have been installed and many said how much safer the planters made them feel” said Cllr James O’Rourke.

Personally, I think it might be helpful if in addition to the flowers there were a few more police on foot in the area, which is a known 'hotspot'; especially at the time of night when this incident took place.

I don't see how this could happen with all the extra police patrols that are in the area because of the recent sex attacks and murder, although 11pm may well have been their cocco and bickie break, so fair do's.

It is nice to see that the hundreds of cash being pumped into 'Gang projects' is working.

Ummm, where does it say anything about this being a gang incident? Doesn't mention anyone else being involved at all except 'A member of the public' who called emergency services... assumptions, assumptions

JB, there are no railway company cctv positions outside this station (victim stabbed outside). the nearest council cctv cameras are Courtenay Mews/rear of Superdrug faces out to High Street & down to St James' Street - might have seen something if working at 11pm?. Bottom of High Street adjacent to pedes. crossing faces down Coppermill Lane/up High Street and along St James' Street: won't have seen anything even if working 'cos I know from experience this one IS locked-off to watch for parking violations outside former library, yet doesn't bother with parked cars illegally on pavement beside 3 shops at top of Coppermill Lane. Bloody joke.
Strangely there are no less than 3 cctv camera positions in the Brunner estate site & South Grove car park locations, all probably so that they capture irate visitors to the NCP parking shop.

ps When was the last (first even), occasion when you heard councillor Akram claim the cctv system was doing its' job of protecting public safety across the borough, and that so far, it had assisted in the successful prosecution of XX number of felons?

Perhaps someone with a brain in council could plant a hidden camera in one of the flower boxes.

This doesn't move me. The victim is highly likely to have been involved in something he shouldn't have been which 'annoyed' another criminal to the extent that they decided to put it upon themselves to find the former and knife him. Oh well...

Hidden cameras? No, that's a breach of Human Rights. Just like hidden speed cameras are. They should be banned.

Or he could have been using the cashpoint and been stabbed for his wallet.

I use the station on a daily basis to get to and from work, but if I'm working late I stay on to Walthamstow Central. The area is not very nice to be around when it is dark and even last night I stood at the bus stop at 7pm and felt uncomfortable with the people who were hanging around for no reason but to stare and intimidate people. In the whole year I have used the station I am sad to say I have not seen one PCO ir police officer, I know I'm not there all day camping out but you expect to see one at least in a whole year.
In regards to the victim being invovled in something Blueprint, what right do you have to say that people are attacked for no reason all the time, like myself who was waiting at a bus stop and had my bag stolen and a black eye for it and I can tell you I am involed in nothing apart from going to work, owning a home and paying my taxes, so don;t tar everyone with the same brush unless you know the facts first.
