AN OVERNIGHT doubling in the price of disabled parking at Wembley Stadium has priced one Chigwell football fan out of the game.

Wheelchair-user Marie Witchell, 58, has been unable to use public transport since falling ill with a neurological disease five years ago.

She was planning to travel to Wembley Stadium to watch Celtic take on the Egyptian team Al-Ahley on July 24, when she discovered Wembley London Ltd had increased the cost of disabled parking from £12 to £26.50.

She said: "Along with my ticket, this was going to cost over £50 which I can ill afford on my disability allowance.

"I can't speak properly or walk so I depend on my wheelchair and car.

"The disabled parking was £12 only last week - why such a hike?

"The Tube on the whole doesn't have access for wheelchairs. I, and many like me, rely on our cars to get to places like Wembley - we don't have any choice in the matter."

The lifelong Spurs fan from Limes Avenue said she has already given up her season ticket due to a price rise which she said was ‘completely unjustified’.

"I love seeing my team. I get there when I can, I wish I could go more often but financially it is not possible,” she said.

"Wembley say they do lots for the disabled, yes the stadium is great but when you have to pay so much to park it makes me very angry.

"I would ask them to return the car parking to what it was."

After complaining to Wembley bosses she was told that there was such demand for parking spaces that there would no longer be any kind of discount scheme for disabled parking because space was at a premium.

A spokesman for Wembley London Ltd said: "Charges for parking spaces at Wembley have now been standardised for all visitors arriving by car.

"The charges are in line with other London venues such as Earls Court."
