A SUSPECTED bank robber has been arrested in Walthamstow following a high speed pursuit through London.

Police lay in wait as robbers struck Barclays Bank in Finchley Road, north London, at 3am, using a grab-arm to hoist a cash machine onto a lorry.

Officers followed the vehicle, which failed to stop and rammed several police cars during a four-mile pursuit.

The 39-year-old driver was finally arrested after the lorry was eventually stopped in Walthamstow.

Two officers were taken to hospital after suffering minor shoulder injuries when their vehicle was hit.

Meanwhile, officers at the bank arrested two men, aged 37 and 31, who were parked nearby in a white transit van.

The 37-year-old was taken to hospital after suffering a minor injury during his arrest.

Det Chief Insp Harry Hennigan said: "We are delighted with the successful conclusion of this operation which has led to three arrests and the recovery of the cash machine."
