A MAN has been found guilty of murdering 21-year-old Adnan Patel in Leyton.

Mr Patel was surrounded by a gang of 12 men wielding sticks, bricks and knives, in Stewart Road, Leyton, on July 10 last year, before being stabbed twice in the chest.

Akeel Shah, 24, of North Birkbeck Road, Leyton, was yesterday found guilty of Mr Patel's murder, and along with three other men, was also found guilty of violent disorder.

The Old Bailey had earlier heard that Mr Patel had been summoned to Rokeby School, in Stratford, prior to his death, where the headteacher told him that his 14-year-old sibling Imran had been found dealing cannabis and would have to be expelled.

Mr Patel, the second eldest of five brothers, then confronted a man called Clint D'Mello, who the boy said had supplied the drugs to him.

Mr D'Mello denied the claim but Mr Patel confronted him again later that day.

Mr Patel was then surrounded by a gang near his home and stabbed on each side of his chest. His 14-year-old brother Imran cowered in Mr Patel's black Ford Focus car while the fatal attack took place, jurors heard.

He got into his car and tried to drive away but crashed in nearby Downsell Road, before dying in the street.

D'Mello, 24, of Ashlin Road, Stratford, Moheeb Khalid, 20, of Seventh Avenue, Manor Park and Mohsin Akram, 19, of Bradymead, Beckton, were found not guilty of murder but guilty of committing violent disorder.

They will be sentenced next month.
