DETECTIVES have issued a fresh appeal for information on a sex attacker who preys on teenage schoolgirls.

Following media coverage last month, another five girls have come forward to say they were attacked and a new, enhanced e-fit of the suspect has been released.

The man is described as being white, in his 30s, slim to medium build, possibly with blue eyes and wearing a black woolly hat on several occasions.

During the attacks, he approaches the girls from behind, tries to lift their skirts and in some cases, tries to touch their legs or bottom.

Some of his victims have said he apologised to them before running off.

Three of the attacks took place in Waltham Forest, while the rest happened in Redbridge, Enfield and Barnet over a year-long period beginning in June 2008.

Almost all the victims were aged between 12 and 15 and the majority of them were approached as they made their way to school, wearing full uniform, between 7am and 9am.

The first of the attacks in Waltham Forest took place on September 18 last year when a 12-year-old girl was attacked in Fulbourne Road, Walthamstow.

Another two girls, also aged 12, were approached by the man on November 25 2008 and June 23 this year, in Organ Lane, Chingford and near Chingford Mount Cemetery, respectively.

None of the victims were seriously injured, but as a precaution, all schools in the affected boroughs have been contacted by police to inform them of the incidents.

Officers from the Sapphire Unit at Enfield are leading the investigation and two men were arrested but eliminated from the enquiry.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sapphire Unit on 8345 4313 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Detective Inspector Caroline Haines, who is leading the enquiry, said: "We have a new e-fit and appeal to anyone who thinks that they might recognise this man to contact us as soon as possible.

“I would also appeal directly to the suspect and urge him to contact us.

"While there appears to have been a break in offending over the school holidays, we would still advise vigilance, particularly around youth summer activities and events such as school youth groups.

“If any parent or guardian has concerns, we would encourage them to contact their Safer Schools officers. Anyone who believes they have been a victim should contact the investigation team."
