At the Standard Music Venue in Walthamstow this Thursday (August 20) Guardian favourites the Maharajas take to the stage to perform their hilarious and insanely catchy crunchy-rock melodies.

Check out their new song about morris dancers – a possible contender for unsigned band song of the year.

Also playing are The Shoestrung and Altitude Zero. Entry is £5 with a band flyer or £6 without, and doors open around 8pm.

At the Square in Harlow, Thursday (August 20) sees a posse of unsigned rock goodness including Burn So Bright, Oceans Upon Us Lost, and In Colour They Sink Ships.

Entry is a fiver, and doors open at 8pm.

And on Friday (August 21) the venue hosts Mobbo-winning reggae-jazz master Finley Quaye.

Tickets are £9 in advance, and doors open at eight.

Whereas on Saturday (August 22), a night of heavy-ness is scheduled with performances from Blood Meridian, Distorted Breed, Trippy Wicked and Emcoil.

Entry is £7 and doors open at 8pm sharp.

Now, for something a little different at the TAS restaurant and bar in Thornwood High Road, Epping, next Saturday (August 29).

Talented local singer Katie Quinton will be performing a night of cabaret with covers from the 20th century's best divas, including Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Dusty Springfield and Janis Joplin.

You can also have a three-course meal there and enjoy the music at the same time for £35.

This Friday night (August 21), popular Welsh band Blue Gillespie play their only London show this summer at the Plough Inn on Wood Street in Walthamstow.

The pub are strongly advising any potential audience members to book in advance, as this looks as if it's going to be a sell-out, with more than 50 tickets already sold.

Support comes from Walthamstow acoustic duo The Danny Noodle Band.

Tickets are £5 in advance from the pub, or £7 on the door. Entry is over 18s only.

Whereas the following Monday (August 24) it's free blue jam night again from 9pm.
