A MOTHER is calling for health and safety at a play centre to be reviewed after her child had to go to hospital following an accident.

Five-year-old Rhys Daniels was playing at Kids Corner in Epping last month and came out of the play equipment with blood pouring down his face.

His mother Tina said: “He went to a party there and he was playing but you can't see the children in there.

"He came out from the play area with blood all down his face and he had cut his head quite badly and had to go to hospital to have it glued.”

"It should all be padded so that can't happen. You expect children to bump themselves but not cut their head so they have to go to hospital. When it happened we asked for a first aider and there was a young girl who said she was qualified but then didn't do anything.

"We asked to speak to the manager but there wasn't anyone around. So we asked them to call an ambulance but they were reluctant to do that as well. The area where he did it wasn't shut off and the blood wasn't wiped away so all the kids were still playing there. We came away feeling angry and confused.”

No one from Kids Corner was available to comment about the incident.

On the Kids Corner website it says that all children must be accompanied by an adult and that children remain the responsibility of parents at all times.

But Mrs Daniels said there are no signs up inside the nursery saying this.

She added: “If there were notices up saying that kids should be supervised by an adult then that's fine but there's nothing to say that. You expect them to be safe.”

A spokeswoman from the district council said: “The Council wasn't aware that there was an accident and the parents have not been in contact or let us know. However the Council will be visiting Kids Corner to investigate what happened. Until such time as we know more we cannot comment.”
