A 22-year-old man has died following a collision between a motorbike and a van.

The crash happened at 11.10am this morning (Friday) in Hatch lane, Chingford.

The victim, who was riding the motorbike, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11.42am.

Police believe the motorcyclist collided with the van as it was turning right into Ashwood Road.

Debra de la Nougerede, who witnessed the aftermath of the accident, of Hatch Lane, said: "I had something on TV when I looked out the window and saw police tape everywhere.

"I ran outside and I saw ambulance men putting a cover on a man lying on the ground.

"I heard they had been trying to rescuscitate him for 45 minutes.

"Drivers are always speeding round here. It's like Brands Hatch."

Police stopped the van driver at the scene, he was not arrested.

Officers cordoned off a large part of Hatch Lane and the New Road roundabout.

Officers believe they know the identity of the dead man and next of kin have been informed.

However, police are witholding the identity until a formal identification has taken place or an inquest has been opened and adjourned.

A post-mortem will take place in due course.
