TWO men from Waltham Forest have been found guilty of plotting to blow up transatlantic airliners with home made bombs.

Ringleader Adulla Ahmed, Ali, 27, of Walthamstow, and Tanvir Hussain, 27, of Leyton, were, along with Assad Sarwar, of High Wycombe, today found guilty of conspiring to murder by blowing up aircraft.

Woolwich Crown Court had heard the trio used a flat in Forest Road, Walthamstow, as a “bomb factory.”

The men planned to take a mixture of chemicals aboard flights in hand luggage.

Ali, Hussain and Sarwar had previously been found guilty of conspriing to murder using bombs, but a previous jury could not agree that they intended to target planes.

The arrests, three years ago, shocked the Waltham Forest community, prompting the council to launch its 225,000 People One Community campaign aimed at increasing community cohesion.

Following the arrests then council leader Clyde Loakes said it was time the world was shown the “real Waltham Forest” and said the borough is a place where people from different backgrounds live together with respect.

The arrests also caused chaos at airports all over the UK, and has resulted in tighter security measures, including a ban on liquid in hand luggage.

Four other men, Ibrahim Savant, 27, Arafat Waheed Khan, 26, Waheed Zaman, 23, all of Walthamstow, and Donald Stewart-Whyte, 23, of High Wycombe were found not guilty of being involved in the plot.
