HUNDREDS of visitors are expected to turn up at Christ Church this weekend for the annual Wanstead Flower Festival.

The two-day event will see the 19th century church decked out with lavish floral displays created by members of the congregation.

Visitors will also be treated to classical music as they peruse the bouquets as part of this year's theme of, 'Our Favourite Hymns.'

The church gardens will also be open on Sunday - as part of the Wanstead Festival - playing host to a number of activities including a BBQ, drinks stand and bouncy castle.

Festival organiser Diane Horne, said: “We hope this year’s flower festival will be even more spectacular than the last.

"We will have dozens of colourful displays and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the event. Any money raised this year will help us keep Christ Church looking beautiful all year round.”

Church Rector, Cannon Robert Springett, added: “Last year saw over 1,000 visitors to Christ Church and everyone is most welcome again.

"This year, as well as supporting local charities, we hope to raise funds for our international projects including a school for the visually impaired in Gulu, Northern Uganda.”

The Flower Festival will be open from Saturday, September 12 - between 10am and 5pm and on Sunday, September 13 - from 11am to 5pm.
