ET's future has changed from a shaggy dog story into a happy tail now the unusual looking pooch has finally found a loving new home.

Back in July the Guardian reported that the Mexican hairless was finding trouble getting a home because of his unusual looks.

ET had been passed over by numerous visitors to his home in Hillside Kennels, Waltham Abbey His story went international and the Guardian received hundreds of email offers to home the lonely pooch from all over, including Israel, Australia, and Sweden.

But ET has finally found a forever home - much closer to home as a companion to Mrs Monique Elton, from Chingford.

Mrs Elton, 71, said it was love at first sight.

She said: "I actually had seen ET advertised on the kennel's website before it was in the paper, and I thought he was beautiful.

"When I saw it later on I couldn't believe that he still hadn't found somewhere so I got in touch with the kennel immediately.

"He's a lovely little dog, very affectionate, although he does need a bit of house training and follows me around the house constantly, I think he may be scared of being left alone again.

"I know people said he was ugly, but I look at him and think he is truly beautiful."

Now ET is set for life in his luxurious new home with all the pampering any pooch could wish for.

He will also be a lifelong friend to Mrs Elton, whose husband passed away earlier this year.

Manager of Hillside Kennels, Dawn Fields said: "We got very fond if him here so we were a bit sad to see him go, but he's got such a lovely new home that it's a great success story for us.

She thanked the Guardian for it's help in attracting attention to ET and Hillside, saying: "We'll miss his funny little face, he was so adorable, but we still have at least 30 other wonderful dogs looking for homes, so we'll be kept busy"
