POLICE will be able to respond quicker to crime after a new base was opened in Walthamstow, the borough’s top cop has pledged.

Walthamstow MP Neil Gerrard and dborough commander opened the new Wood Street Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) office in Marlowe Road on Friday.

Mr Benbow said: ““This new base will provide a better service to the borough and we will be able to respond quickly to situations that arise.”

Mr Gerrard added: “I know what a difference the SNTs have made for local residents.

“Having a base in the area, and police officers who know the area and know local people, means that problems can be picked up and dealt with.”

A former post office in Sewardstone Road, Chingford, was officially opened as a SNT base last Friday.

It will be used by officers for the Chingford Green and Endlebury areas.

Bases in Forest Road, Walthamstow, and Ching Way, Chingford, are also due to open soon.
