NEIGHBOURS were surprised to wake up to the sound of horses naying after a herd went for a walk in a residential road.
The black and white ponies were spotted by a resident of Knebworth Avenue, in Walthamstow, John Cross, after the adventurous animals escaped from a nearby field on Saturday morning.
Mr Cross said: "I was in the house when I saw horses going past and a police woman chasing them. I couldn't believe it.
"I was sat down then I heard the clip clopping of them being chased by police so I went out to see what was going on. It was a bit of entertainment."
Mr Cross said police officers taped off the end of the quiet cul-se-sac to keep the animals safe while the owners of the ponies were traced and waited for two hours before they were finally collected.
