MORE than 50 council officers have the right to enter YOUR home or workplace without a warrant.
Redbridge Council currently employs 56 staff who have the right to gain access to where residents live or work under any one of 1,043 UK laws.
Figures obtained by civil liberties group Big Brother Watch under the Freedom of Information Act show that the number of officers with these powers in Redbridge are above the national average of 47.
Laws under which council officers may enter your home include the well-known Animal Welfare Act 2006 and the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.
However, other reasons officers can enter a home or business include checking on the energy rating of refrigerators (Energy Information Household Refrigerators and Freezers Act 2004), to check if anyone is being illegally hypnotised (Hypnotism Act 1952), or to prevent the introduction or spread of diseases related to bees (Bees Act 1980).
