RESIDENTS have been given the chance to limber up in the New Year by taking part in special yoga sessions at the borough's new polyclinic.
The classes are being run by Redbridge mum-of-four Prem Sharma, who believes the exercises can help people of all ages improve their mental and physical health.
A spokesman for NHS Redbridge said: "Prem Sharma was introduced to yoga as a young girl growing up in India.
"Her earliest memory was learning the basic postures from her grandfather who was himself a devout practitioner.
"Prem says the 3,000-year-old discipline has a great calming effect on her life as well numerous health benefits promoted by the deep breathing exercises, stretching and meditation associated with the practice."
Ms Sharma currently teaches several classes across the borough including a weekly session with Awaaz women's group at Loxford Polyclinic in Ilford.
She said: "There is still so much to learn and I feel truly blessed to have been introduced to yoga."
The yoga classes are held every Thursday between 6 and 8pm at Loxford Polyclinic.
