ARSENE WENGER has revealed that he will not pursue Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh, although he admitted that he is on the lookout for a new frontman during the January transfer window.

The Arsenal boss said the French league leaders will not sell the Moroccan hitman this month, with his current deal with the club running out in four months’ time.

"Chamakh is in the Champions League with Bordeaux and at the top of their league, so he will not move now," said Wenger.

"He has four months [of his deal] to go with Bordeaux and they have no interest in selling him."

Wenger has had to cope with the loss of Robin van Persie to injury, who will be missing for almost the entire season, while there has been a further setback for Nicklas Bendtner, who is expected to be out for several more weeks with a groin problem.

"Robin van Persie and Bendtner contributed to many of the 51 goals we scored," said the manager. "They were both in outstanding form and we miss them.

"But on the other hand we have played 19 games and if you multiply 51 by two it is over 100 goals for the season.

"That is absolutely tremendous and people don't realise how efficient we are going forward.

"I can understand that people are scared because we are short [up front].

"I don't deny that, but I always hoped for a long time that Bendtner would be available at the beginning of January but that is not the case now. So we have to look somewhere."
