CONSTRUCTION work on an underpass which will link Waltham Forest to the Olympic Park has been completed on time, 2012 bosses say.

An underpass has been built underneath the A12, at Temple Mills, Leyton, in less than a month.

It is hoped the underpass will enable Waltham Forest residents to access the Games more easily and take pressure off tube and bus services.

John Armitt, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) chairman, said: “The delivery of this critical engineering project on time is a significant achievement given the complexities and challenges involved.

“It is a testament to the hard work and ingenuity of our workers and engineers working round the clock to construct the new underpass beneath a busy dual carriageway, without causing any disruption to motorists.”

But the underpass is unlikely to placate those, such as Conservative council group leader Matt Davis, who believe the borough should have received better transport links from the Games.

Cllr Davis has repeatedly said that former council leader Clyde Loakes should have fought harder to secure the re-opening of the Hall Farm Curve rail connection as part of the borough's 2012 benefits.
